They're looking at about 150 acres, which involves over a dozen landowners. A retired couple owns 50 of the acres & have said for years that they don't want to sell... they want to stay there until they die.

Looks like someone need to get the McAfee boys on retainer, seem like the whole Div1 on this side of Chilhowie has a case for a suit. He's always wanted a reason to get the VHSL dissolved and send those Billions back to the schools

Thats not what he said. The only Region B teams moving will be the D2 teams. Also Tom Walker would not have to travel to Buffalo Gap if it was so because BG will move up to D2. D1 will be a ton easier to win the state in with this plan because you will no longer see the 500+ enrollment schools playing in D1 anymore. You could see Thomas Walker travel but some of the Region C teams will be moving to the East side. The biggest amount of travel will be in D2 not D1. This plan has already been approved but not made final. It is going to happen but we dont have full details because it in not final. This is by far better than what we have in place now. D1 teams in this area will have a lot better chance to win state than they do now. Also they have talked about making neutral sites if teams are 200+ miles apart. That way if it was 200 miles between they will find a site to where the teams would meet in the middle. It is a 2 year trial so who knows what will happen. This is something I have been wanting to see for years. Right now the current setup is hell for teams like Norton, or one of our other small D1 schools to win State. Right now Norton with an enrollment of 252 would see a team like Buffalo Gap with the enrollment of 608 in the State Title Game. Next year BG will be D2. Only 2 teams in Region B will be D1 next year. Altavista and William Campbell. Altavista will be d2 if their enrollment increases by 4+ students. Radford will not have to travel to Nandua because Nandua will stay in D2 with their enrollment being over 700. Radford will be D1 unless their enrollment goes up more than 11 students. Lets give this a chance. It will showcase some excellent matchups instead of the same old same old we see every year now.

I kind of like the change and agree that the state game will be on more even footing But with teams like Radford and George Wyth now being Div 1 region C will have tougher teams in Div 1 than is currently the case

It will be interesting to see what the matchups would be if the plan was in place this season of if the numbers will get juggled around if/when the school closeing happen in WC (Div 1 will be down 3 schools will they bump up the cutoff number or what?)

Down 3 or down 2? I doubt they change much. You never know how a couple of other schools enrollment may change as well.

3 (I was thinking Kelly would have been Div 1 as well)

Of course in 2 years they would be down 3 more if Clintwood, Haysi and Ervinton consoladate

Maybe Kelly would have been. I forgot about that possibility. I really dont forecast them changing the enrollment number as much as they may move Pioneer teams that may be shifting to the East in the new alignment back over to the west side of the cutoff.

I dont see being down 3 a problem either. Enrollment numbers probably stay the same. Wonder when all this will be final?

George Wythe will have to lose about 24 students by next year to be Division 1. As of right now it looks to be Radford, Chilhowie, Auburn, and Patrick Henry in Region C that will drop to D1. Grundy could have been D1 next year also but their enrollments have spiked. They have went from 444 in 08,09 to next year having about 505. Kelly will have 470 students next year to will be 20 to big to be D1 also. The only Region D schools that will drop next year are Honaker, and Coeburn.

You can go to VDOE :: Superintendent?s Annual Report to find the enrollments for next year. You will have to do some math work but it shows what they will be.

Interesting....When do the VHSL Numbers come out if I rember those numbers are always a little differant from the state numbers (And I do not understand why that is)
